The Central Law Library was established in 1993 in the special initiation of justice Biswanath Upadhaya; former chief justice of Nepal .At its establishment significant assistance was received from The Asia Foundation and the former Indian ambassador to Nepal H.E. Bimal Prasad has contributed some valuable books. Presently, the library receives a small fund contributed by the government that is insufficient to meet the growing demand of books and journals often demanded by law scholars, professionals and students.
An autonomous body constituted under the law which chairperson is H.E. justice of Supreme Court & membership includes the registrar of Supreme Court, Dean of Tribhuvan University faculty of law, and also the chairperson of Nepal Bar Association manages the Library.
Major objectives of the library are to support of legal research system in the country. This is the only public law library that provides the opportunity to all the concerned readers to get necessary legal literature and information. Presently law Students and law professionals comprise the largest number of its users.
At present the library has collected around 9000 books. Besides this, it has some journals, reports and periodicals of law. The library has significant number of law books published in the USA, UK and India. Due to the insufficiency of fund we have not been able to enhance our stock of law books often demanded by the users of this library.
As such the management of the library is interested to explore the possibilities of receiving book aids from national and international contributors.
